Roger Babson and The Gravity Research Foundation

I have decided to start with Gravity, in the study of Anti-Gravity or antigravity as you prefer. While the true beginning of the study of GRAVITY began in ancient times, and eventually no doubt we will get to some of the olde concepts including the apple of Newton's head - for our start it will be more on topic to begin our study of Gravity with a research foundation, and a man, that studied Gravity with an intent to not only learn more about Gravity, but to learn to overcome it's effects, as we do. I am speaking of Mr. Roger Babson 1875-1967, and The Gravity Research Foundation. Roger W. Babson was a multifaceted man, having many talents who founded the Gravity Research Foundation in 1948. 1948 was an interesting year! On founding the Foundation it was stated as an objective to "arouse interest and encourage others to carry on experiments in gravity research". Amongst the specific goals was searching for a "way to shield objects from gravity" as well as one of the first serious looks into "antigravity" and a "Gravity Insulator". Hence my choice as this man and his foundation in our study of gravity, since the name of this site is Antigravity , and he kept the very concept alive in the minds of man. As to the actual man and his foundation, I can not do his story full coverage here in this forum, but I can touch lightly on his work and his Foundation's work and perhaps ignite your interest in his story .The Gravity Research Foundation is still around, and they still support research on Gravity ! Not many today talk of this Foundation, but every year they have an Essay contest, and yes they give out cash awards, from several hundred up to the area of 3,500 dollars. While the foundation is somewhat quiet and not an everyday word on the lips of nightly news, there have been some very well known scientists that have applied with essays and papers to this group. Not the least amongst these was Stephen W Hawking , who won 5 times.They also keep a library of documents concerning gravity for researchers to use.
